Who Is Eligible
Once you leave employment with DFW Airport you are eligible to participate in the Airport’s retiree medical and/or vision plans, even if you do not immediately draw your pension/retirement benefits, provided you meet the requirements below.
When Coverage Begins
You may enroll in retiree coverage when all of the following apply:
- You were enrolled in one of the medical and/or vision plans offered by the Airport immediately prior to your separation.
- You are at least 55 years of age.
- You completed at least five consecutive years of service with DFW, measured from your date of hire, at the time of your separation.
- Or you are eligible for an early retirement benefit as defined in the DPS Pension Plan.
- You were not receiving any long-term disability benefits under a plan offered by the Airport at the time of your separation.
- Dependents on your Airport active medical and vision plans at the time you retire are eligible for coverage under the Airport retiree plans.
- The benefit choices you make during enrollment take effect Jan. 1, 2026, or on the first day of the month following your separation if you are newly eligible, and stay in effect through Dec. 31, 2026.
Eligible Dependents
- Your legal spouse.
- Children under age 26 - natural child, stepchild, legally adopted child, child placed for legal adoption, foster child placed with you by an authorized placement agency or court order, or a child by legal guardianship - or older if mentally or physically incapacitated, with DFW Airport approval.
Ineligible Dependents
- Former spouse.
- Domestic partner and domestic partner children.
- Parents and grandparents.
- Grandchildren without legal guardianship.
Qualifying Life Events
- You are permitted to remove dependents from your plan during the year, but you are not allowed to add them.
- You must be continuously enrolled in a DFW Airport medical and/or vision plan to maintain coverage.
- If you and/or your dependents elect to terminate coverage during the year, you may not re-enroll later.
Enrollment Notes
- Enrollment window: Nov. 1-30, 2025.
- The last day to make a change to your benefit selections is Nov. 30, 2025.
- Enrollment is passive - you do not have to return your enrollment form unless you want to make a change or cancel your coverage.
- Once you remove yourself or a dependent from medical and/or vision coverage, you may not re-enroll later.
- Cushion Employer Services will mail enrollment material to your home with information on benefit elections and payment options.
- Medical subsidy credits are available to retirees who terminated employment after Jan. 1, 2003, with a minimum of 10 years of employment with DFW Airport, until the retiree reaches age 65.
- The subsidy is $20 per completed year of service, up to a maximum monthly credit of $400.
- Credits apply to the HDHP, Health Reimbursement Account, Open Access Plus In-Network and Open Access Plus premiums, and cannot be applied to the Medicare Supplement Plan.
- Regardless of the credit amount, a retiree’s minimum monthly premium will be equal to or greater than that of an active employee of DFW Airport.
